Do you have a dream that you want to come true? What about the lost dreams? Has migration ever been a dream?
I am not a story you tell
I am not a melody you can sing, not a voice you can hear
Or something you can see or something you can know
I am the common pain, scream me!
Tree has a word with forest
Grass with plain
Star with galaxy
And I talk to you
Tell me your name
give your hand to me
Tell me your story
give me your heart
I have understood your roots
With your lips I have spoken for all lips
Your hands are familiar with my hands
Give me your hand
Your hands are familiar with me
A Dream That Came True? is an exploration regarding process of acculturation and the reality of life of two female individuals from Middle-East who have migrated to Finland over a decade ago. Videos/films contain their dream of life from past to the present time, their experience of success and/or struggle. This project intends to go beyond the existing stereotyping models based on gender or culture and tackle it.
I aim to create a dialogue between people in the society regarding the migrations through art. To explore the possibilities of going beyond the boundaries which are caused by one's own culture, or sociopolitical structure of the place she lived/lives. In fact, it reflects on life of people who cross the border between the traditional and postmodern type of life: Space, Identity and the politics of difference. The videos/films join different angles of situation involved with migration issues in Finland. They portray the concept of migration, adjustment or separation from the hosting society or being in between.
Welcome to join us and take part in a dialogue.
This project has been supported by Suomen Kulttuurirahasto and Taiteen edistmiskeskus, and music is made in collaboration with Sibelius Academy.
