Venu Dhupas seminar/ workshop quick view:
“In 2016 as the Netherlands approached the end of their Presidency of the European Union, the UK Embassy identified the subject of cultural diversity as a key and increasing challenge for Europe. There had been no significant primary EU wide research on the subject since 2008. Professor Venu Dhupa was invited to conduct primary research examining perceptions of and attitudes to cultural diversity. The research reveals the key hopes, fears, potential and challenges on this topic and the moral and citizenship obligations people feel we should consider as we plan our public policy and public services. The research is accompanied by a new Position Statement, which is created as a counter-point or counter-weight to some of the disturbing rhetoric coming from some parts of the political frame." Note: Diversity in this sense covers the whole spectrum: age, race, gender, digital etc.
Alongside the results of the research the workshop will explore how we have a constructive conversation about this 'hot topic' without feeling that we are using the wrong words or causing offence.
